New Pathways is a service which offers counselling and support to men, women, children and young people who are affected by the trauma caused by Rape and Sexual Abuse. We offer these services to children and young people who have been affected by any type of trauma such as bullying or the loss of a parent, providing a tailor made therapeutic programme to meet their individual needs.

New Pathways is based in Merthyr Tydfil but we have outreach posts in Cardiff, Newport Swansea Central and Clydach Hospital as well as projects running in both HMP Cardiff and Usk. We accept referrals from both voluntary and statutory agencies from all over Wales. Alternatively, people can contact the office direct and make a Self Referral.

New Pathways are the first organisation within Wales to have developed a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). This facility is a safe and comfortable place to which a victim of rape or sexual assault can come to receive support from the agency, police and medical professionals. The centre has been developed with feedback and suggestions from our clients who have acted as consultants in making sure the centre is equipped to deal with the varying needs of those who will use it.

A women's life can be totally disrupted by a sexual assault and there are often few sympathetic and understanding people she can turn to. The Rape Crisis Centre is staffed by a group of women who are there to help other women who have been raped or sexually assaulted in whatever way. Women and girls, or concerned friends can contact us for emotional and practical support. No problem is to small or unimportant if it is causing worry and distress.

We offer a confidential telephone line to any women or girl, face to face counselling, information on practical matters such as VD, pregnancy, police, courts and housing, we can accompany you on visits to the police, courts, clinics and solicitors, help with applications for financial compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. We provide only whatever support the woman or girl herself wants or chooses.

Talking on the phone may be all that you want or need. If, however you would prefer to see a counsellor personally, you can arrange an appointment by ringing the line or writing to us.
